Definition 1.(Lemma Lounge)
A community for anyone who has ever found a proof beautiful, a pattern surprising, or a puzzle impossible to put down.
The Lemma Lounge encourages the love and appreciation of the beauty of mathematics in all its forms. We host lectures on special topics in mathematics, engage in community outreach, and organize events to foster the appreciation of mathematics in all.
Lemma 2.(What we do)
Three ways to find your way in
Special-topic lectures
Talks on the corners of mathematics you won't always meet in a course, pitched so curious newcomers and seasoned students can both follow along.
Community outreach
Bringing mathematics beyond the college classroom and into high school communities around the area, so more students get to see how much fun it can be.
Events
Gatherings built around problems, games, and good conversation, where the only prerequisite is showing up.
Axioms.(after Federico Ardila)
Everybody counts
We believe in Federico Ardila's axioms:
- Axiom 1.
Mathematical potential is equally present in different groups, irrespective of geographic, demographic, and economic boundaries.
- Axiom 2.
Everyone can have joyful, meaningful, and empowering mathematical experiences.
- Axiom 3.
Mathematics is a powerful, malleable tool that can be shaped and used differently by various communities to serve their needs.
- Axiom 4.
Every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

Theorem 3.(All are welcome)
All are welcome
Every person, regardless of major, year, or mathematical background, belongs in the Lemma Lounge.
Proof. Suppose you enjoy mathematics in any form, or are curious whether you might. Then by Definition 1 you share our purpose. No course, grade, or prior experience appears anywhere in our hypotheses. Hence you are welcome.

Corollary 4.(Officers)
The people who keep the Newark lounge running
Remark 5.(Joining)
Come say hello
There is no application and no entrance exam. Stop by a lecture or event, bring a friend, and bring whatever questions you have.
Want to give a talk, suggest a topic, or help with outreach? Reach out to any of the officers above. We'd love to hear from you.
∪ { you : you're curious }
